Royal Thai Armed Forces Day 2010
On Monday 18 January 2010, from 6.30 to 9.30 p.m., the Office of Military Attache of the Royal Thai Embassy represented by Captain Sutheepong Kaewtab, Acting Defence and Naval Attache, Gp. Captain Mana Prasopsri, Air Attache, and Colonel Kamchai Wongsri, Army Attache hosted a reception at the Shangri-La Hotel to celebrate the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day. Major General Neo Kian Hong, Chief of Army of the Republic of Singapore, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. There were more than 250 distinguished guests comprising officers of the Singapore Armed Forces, military attaches, ambassadors or representatives of ASEAN member countries, Thai nationals residing in Singapore and Singaporeans, who are “Friends of Thailand”. Ambassador Nopadol and Mrs. Anchulee Gunavibool as well as the staff of the Royal Thai Embassy and Team Thailand were also present.
The Thai Ambassador, in his speech, emphasized the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ continued important roles in the Thai society in safeguarding national security and coping with transnational problems which are both traditional and non-traditional threats. They worked closely with other ASEAN countries in areas such as military exercises, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief which would be a strong foundation for building ASEAN Community. He recognized the warm, close and cooperative relations between the Royal Thai Armed Forces and SAF which have helped forge closer people to people and military ties between the two countries.
A slideshow in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol, was shown to demonstrate what this much beloved King has done over the past sixty three years that he reigns as the King of Thailand. The guests had a chance to enjoy the wonderful and exquisite Thai cuisine prepared by Thai chefs from various establishments.
